Mt. Fuji and Cherry Blossoms (Sakura)
The symbols of Japan, as viewed from Kawaguchi Lake. Mount Fuji (3776 meters) is Japan's highest mountain and the focal point of the sprawling Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Visible from Tokyo on a clear day, the mountain is located to the west of Tokyo on the main island Honshu. In Japan, cherry blossoms also symbolize clouds due to their nature of blooming en masse, besides being an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. Cherry blossom is an omen of good fortune and is also an emblem of love, affection and represents spring. Being the Japan's unofficial national flower, Cherry blossoms are an enduring metaphor for the fleeting nature of life, and as such are frequently depicted in art.
